Vivekachudamani 1.199

1.199 Guru to Disciple

prabodhe svapnavatsarvaṃ sahamūlaṃ vinaśyati | anādyapīdaṃ no nityaṃ prāgabhāva iva sphuṭam ||

[It] perishes entirely, root and all, like a dream on waking. This, though beginningless, is not eternal, clearly, like prior absence.

Meaning today and context

When you wake up, the dream does not need to be dismantled piece by piece; it is just gone. Clear understanding works like that on deep-rooted confusion.

The guru completes the thought with the analogy of waking from a dream and the logical notion of 'prior absence'.
