Vivekachudamani 1.204

1.204 Guru to Disciple

jalaṃ paṅkavadatyantaṃ paṅkāpāye jalaṃ sphuṭam | yathā bhāti tathātmāpi doṣābhāve sphuṭaprabhaḥ ||

Just as water that is thoroughly muddy shines clear once the mud is removed, so the Self too shines with clear light when the defects are gone.

Meaning today and context

Your clarity is not lost, only clouded. As agitation, resentment and confusion settle, what was always there becomes visible again.

The guru gives the image of muddy water: the Self shines clearly once the impurities covering it are removed.
