Vivekachudamani 1.235

1.235 Guru to Disciple

ataḥ pṛthaṅnāsti jagatparātmanaḥ | pṛthakpratītistu mṛṣā guṇādivat | āropitasyāsti kimarthavattā | 'dhiṣṭhānamābhāti tathā bhrameṇa ||

Therefore the world does not exist apart from the supreme Self; its appearance as separate is false, like qualities and the like [seen apart from their substance]. What reality can something superimposed have? It is the substratum that appears that way, through error.

Meaning today and context

What you see is not nothing; it is the real seen in a confused way. Clearer seeing does not remove the world, it reveals what it rests on.

The guru concludes that the world has no existence apart from the supreme Self.
