Vivekachudamani 1.243

1.243 Guru to Disciple

tayorvirodho'yamupādhikalpito | na vāstavaḥ kaścidupādhireṣaḥ | īśasya māyā mahadādikāraṇaṃ | jīvasya kāryaṃ śṛṇu pañcakośam ||

This opposition between them is created by their limiting adjuncts; it is not real at all. The adjunct of the Lord is māyā, the cause of mahat and the rest; that of the individual soul is its effect, the five sheaths. Listen.

Meaning today and context

What makes you feel separate and small is the 'packaging' of body and mind, not what you essentially are. Seeing this can loosen the feeling of being only a limited, isolated self.

The guru says the contradiction between God and the individual comes only from their limiting adjuncts (upādhis): māyā for God, the five sheaths for the individual.
