1.291 Guru to Disciple

yatraiṣa jagadābhāso darpaṇāntaḥ puraṃ yathā | tadbrahmāhamiti jñātvā kṛtakṛtyo bhaviṣyasi ||

That in which this appearance of the world shows itself, like a city reflected in a mirror: knowing 'I am that Brahman', you will have done all there is to do.

Meaning today and context

A mirror is not touched by the city it shows. Seeing that you are the awareness in which life's events appear can end the restless feeling that something more must always be achieved.

The guru, in the Vivekachudamani attributed to Shankaracharya, says that knowing oneself as the Brahman in which the world appears, like a city in a mirror, completes all one has to do.
