Vivekachudamani 1.292

1.292 Guru to Disciple

yatsatyabhūtaṃ nijarūpamādyaṃ | cidadvayānandamarūpamakriyam | tadetya mithyāvapurutsṛjeta | śailūṣavadveṣamupāttamātmanaḥ ||

Having reached what is truly real, your own original nature, consciousness and non-dual bliss, formless and actionless, give up the false body as an actor gives up the costume he has put on.

Meaning today and context

An actor plays the role fully but goes home as himself. We can play our roles of job, family and status wholeheartedly without forgetting that we are more than the costume.

The guru, in the Vivekachudamani attributed to Shankaracharya, compares the body to an actor's costume: on reaching one's true nature, one drops the false identity as an actor drops a role.
