The knower of every change in changing things must be eternal and changeless. In daydreams, dreams and deep sleep, the unreality of these two (the gross and subtle bodies) is clearly seen again and again.

Every night the body and the waking world drop away in dreams, and in deep sleep the mind too. Noticing this can loosen our grip on the idea that we are only our bodies and thoughts.
The guru, in the Vivekachudamani attributed to Shankaracharya, argues that the knower of all changes must itself be changeless, and that daydream, dream and deep sleep show the unreality of the two bodies.
