tato vikārāḥ prakṛterahaṃmukhā | dehāvasānā viṣayāśca sarve | kṣaṇe'nyathābhāvitayā hyamīṣām | asattvamātmā tu kadāpi nānyathā ||
Hence all the modifications of nature, beginning with the ego and ending with the body, and all objects too, are unreal, since they change from moment to moment; but the Self never becomes otherwise.

Moods, thoughts, the body and circumstances all keep changing. What notices the change does not change; there is a steadiness in us beneath everything that comes and goes.
The guru continues teaching the disciple in the Vivekachudamani (attributed to Shankaracharya): he says all modifications of nature, from ego down to the body, and all objects are unreal because they change from moment to moment, while the Self never changes.
