Vivekachudamani 1.36

1.36 Disciple to Guru

durvārasaṃsāradavāgnitaptaṃ | dodhūyamānaṃ duradṛṣṭavātaiḥ | bhītaṃ prapannaṃ paripāhi mṛtyoḥ | śaraṇyamanyadyadahaṃ na jāne ||

Scorched by the unstoppable forest fire of worldly existence, tossed about by the winds of misfortune, frightened, I have come to you for refuge: protect me from death, for I know no other shelter.

If you feel this way yourself, you are not alone: please talk to someone you trust or call Tele-MANAS 14416. 'Protect me from death' here asks for freedom from the cycle of birth and death.

Meaning today and context

Life can feel like a fire and a storm at once. Naming our fear honestly and turning to someone wise and caring is the right first move.

The seeker's prayer to the guru continues: he describes his fear and asks for protection.
