Vivekachudamani 1.370

1.370 Guru to Disciple

dehaprāṇendriyamanobuddhyādibhirupādhibhiḥ | yairyairvṛtteḥsamāyogastattadbhāvo'sya yoginaḥ ||

With whichever adjuncts, the body, breath, senses, mind, intellect and the rest, the mind's activity is joined, the yogi takes on the nature of that.

Meaning today and context

Whatever we identify with, we feel we are: tired body, anxious mind, clever intellect. Noticing this is the first step to not being trapped by it.

The guru continues teaching the disciple in the Vivekachudamani (attributed to Shankaracharya): he says that with whichever adjunct (body, breath, senses, mind, intellect) the mind's activity is joined, the yogi takes on that character.
