Vivekachudamani 1.371

1.371 Guru to Disciple

tannivṛttyā muneḥ samyaksarvoparamaṇaṃ sukham | saṃdṛśyate sadānandarasānubhavaviplavaḥ ||

When that ceases, the sage's complete withdrawal from everything is happiness; and there is seen an overflowing experience of the bliss of the real.

Meaning today and context

Much of our joy is hidden by constant identification with roles and moods. When that busy identifying rests, a quiet happiness is found that was there all along.

The guru continues teaching the disciple in the Vivekachudamani (attributed to Shankaracharya): he says when that identification stops, the sage comes to complete rest, which is happiness, and an overflowing experience of lasting bliss is seen.
