Vivekachudamani 1.400

1.400 Guru to Disciple

draṣṭudarśanadṛśyādibhāvaśūnyaikavastuni | nirvikāre nirākāre nirviśeṣe bhidā kutaḥ ||

In the one reality, free of the states of seer, seeing and seen, in the changeless, the formless, the attributeless, where could difference come from?

Meaning today and context

Ordinary experience is split into the one who sees, the act of seeing and the thing seen. The verse points to an awareness that underlies all three.

The guru, continuing his teaching to the disciple, continues the refrain: in the one reality there is no seer, seeing or seen.
