Vivekachudamani 1.407

1.407 Guru to Disciple

cittamūlo vikalpo'yaṃ cittābhāve na kaścana | ataścittaṃ samādhehi pratyagrūpe parātmani ||

This world of distinctions has its root in the mind; where there is no mind, there is none at all. Therefore settle your mind in the supreme Self, your innermost nature.

Meaning today and context

Much of our turmoil is built by the mind's own commentary. Turning attention inward, to the awareness behind the thoughts, is a practical way to step out of the spin.

The guru, continuing his teaching to the disciple, teaches that all distinction is rooted in the mind, so the mind should be fixed on the inner Self.
