Vivekachudamani 1.423

1.423 Guru to Disciple

ajñānahṛdayagranthervināśo yadyaśeṣataḥ | anicchorviṣayaḥ kiṃ nu pravṛtteḥ kāraṇaṃ svataḥ ||

If the knot of ignorance in the heart is destroyed completely, what sense object could by itself be a cause of activity for one who has no desire?

Meaning today and context

Things pull at us because of a want inside. When that inner want dissolves, the same objects lose their hold without any struggle.

The guru, continuing his teaching to the disciple, argues that once the knot of ignorance in the heart is fully cut, nothing remains to drive a desireless person toward sense objects.
