Vivekachudamani 1.441

1.441 Guru to Disciple

yatra praviṣṭā viṣayāḥ pareritā | nadīpravāhā iva vārirāśau | linanti sanmātratayā na vikriyāṃ | utpādayantyeṣa yatirvimuktaḥ ||

He into whom sense objects, driven by others, enter like streams of rivers into the ocean, and merge as mere Being, producing no change: that renunciant is liberated.

Meaning today and context

Life keeps pouring things in: demands, offers, provocations. A deep, settled mind receives them like the ocean receives rivers, without overflowing.

The guru gives the image of rivers entering the ocean: sense objects come to the liberated one but cause no disturbance.
