Vivekachudamani 1.444

1.444 Guru to Disciple

atyantakāmukasyāpi vṛttiḥ kuṇṭhati mātari | tathaiva brahmaṇi jñāte pūrṇānande manīṣiṇaḥ ||

Even in a man full of lust, desire is blunted before his mother. In the same way, once Brahman, the fullness of bliss, is known, the wise one's mind stops running outward.

Meaning today and context

Some cravings do not need to be fought; they simply fall away in the presence of something that changes how we see. Clear seeing can do what force cannot.

The guru gives a simile: just as desire falls silent in front of one's mother, so the mind's craving falls silent once Brahman, full joy, is known.
