Vivekachudamani 1.445

1.445 Guru to Disciple

nididhyāsanaśīlasya bāhyapratyaya īkṣyate | bravīti śrutiretasya prārabdhaṃ phaladarśanāt ||

Even in one given to deep contemplation (nididhyāsana), awareness of outer things is seen. The Śruti says this is his prārabdha karma, because its results are visible.

Meaning today and context

Even a deeply spiritual person still feels hunger, hears noise, gets tired. That is not failure; it is the body's momentum playing out.

The guru: even in one devoted to deep meditation, outward perceptions are seen; scripture calls this the working out of prārabdha karma, inferred from its visible results.
