Vivekachudamani 1.448

1.448 Guru to Disciple

yatkṛtaṃ svapnavelāyāṃ puṇyaṃ vā pāpamulbaṇam | suptotthitasya kiṃ tatsyātsvargāya narakāya vā ||

Whatever great merit or terrible sin was done in a dream, does it lead the man who has woken up to heaven or to hell?

Meaning today and context

We can be haunted by things that belong to a state we have left. Waking up, in this teaching, means they lose their power over who we are now.

The guru continues the dream analogy: do great merit or sin done in a dream send the waker to heaven or hell?
