namo namaste gurave mahātmane | vimuktasaṅgāya saduttamāya | nityādvayānandarasasvarūpiṇe | bhūmne sadāpāradayāmbudhāmne ||
Salutations, salutations to you, great-souled guru, free from all attachment, the best of the good, whose very nature is the essence of eternal, non-dual bliss, the infinite one, ever a boundless ocean of compassion.
Praise of the guru is not a reason to give unquestioning obedience, money or control to anyone who claims to be one. A true teacher, as this verse says, is free of attachment and full of compassion.
