Vivekachudamani 1.495

1.495 Disciple to Guru

sarveṣu bhūteṣvahameva saṃsthito | jñānātmanāntarbahirāśrayaḥ san | bhoktā ca bhogyaṃ svayameva sarvaṃ | yadyatpṛthagdṛṣṭamidantayā purā ||

It is I alone who abide in all beings, as awareness, the support within and without. The enjoyer and the enjoyed, all of it, is I myself: whatever I formerly saw as separate, as 'this'.

Meaning today and context

If the same awareness lives in every being, then harming another is in a real sense harming oneself. This is the root of compassion in the Advaita view.

The disciple says he dwells in all beings as awareness, and that everything he once saw as separate is himself.
