Vivekachudamani 1.572

1.572 Guru to Disciple

astīti pratyayo yaśca yaśca nāstīti vastuni | buddhereva guṇāvetau na tu nityasya vastunaḥ ||

The notion 'it exists' and the notion 'it does not exist' regarding a thing are both qualities of the intellect alone, not of the eternal Reality.

Meaning today and context

Our judgments and labels are mental events. Seeing that loosens their grip without denying them.

The guru says the notions 'it is' and 'it is not' belong to the intellect, not to Reality.
