Vidura Niti 1.70

1.70 Vidura to Dhritarashtra

He who gains mastery over the six that are always present within himself, having conquered his senses, is not touched by sins; how then by misfortunes?

Meaning today and context

Most of the trouble we get into starts with an impulse we did not check. Mastery of our senses and mind is the root from which right conduct and a steadier life grow.

Vidura says that mastery over the six ever-present powers within oneself, the senses and the mind, keeps a person free of wrongdoing.
