6.44 Vidura to Dhritarashtra

taṃ drakṣyasi paribhraṣṭaṃ tasmāttvaṃ nacirādiva | aiśvaryamadasaṃmūḍhaṃ baliṃ lokatrayādiva ||

You will soon see him fallen from that power, deluded by the intoxication of sovereignty, as Bali fell from the three worlds.

Meaning today and context

Power that goes to one's head does not last; Vidura uses Bali, who lost the three worlds, as the example. Intoxication with position blinds people to their own fall.

Vidura predicts that Duryodhana, blinded by the pride of power, will soon fall, as the demon king Bali fell from rule over the three worlds.
