Vidura Niti 7.42

7.42 Vidura to Dhritarashtra

karmaṇā manasā vācā yadabhīkṣṇaṃ niṣevate | tadevāpaharatyenaṃ tasmātkalyāṇamācaret ||

Whatever a person constantly pursues in deed, mind and speech, that very thing carries him away. Therefore one should practise what is good.

Meaning today and context

What we repeat becomes who we are. Our habits of action, thought and speech slowly take over, so choose them deliberately.

Vidura teaches that whatever one repeatedly does in deed, thought and word ends up carrying one away, so one should practise what is good.
