mṛtaṃ putraṃ duḥkhapuṣṭaṃ manuṣyā utkṣipya rājansvagṛhānnirharanti | taṃ muktakeśāḥ karuṇaṃ rudantaścitāmadhye kāṣṭhamiva kṣipanti ||
When a son, raised with so much hardship, dies, people lift him up, O king, and carry him out of their own home; with hair unbound, weeping piteously, they place him on the pyre as if he were wood.
Grief: acknowledge the loss first. This verse names the pain of mourning; it does not tell a bereaved parent to stop grieving or that their child was 'only wood'. If grief becomes unbearable, call Tele-MANAS 14416.

Vidura describes a funeral to make the king face the reality of death: even a beloved son is carried out and given to the fire.
