When the mouth is parched with thirst, one drinks cool, sweet water; tormented by hunger, one eats rice with meat and the rest; when the fire of desire flares, one holds one's wife in a tight embrace. It is a remedy for a disease, and people mistake it for happiness.

Much of what we chase as happiness is just relief from a craving we created. Seeing that can loosen the endless cycle of want and relief.
Bhartrihari argues that what people call pleasure is only a remedy for a pain: water for thirst, food for hunger, embrace for the fire of desire.
