उत्खातं निधि-शङ्कया क्षिति-तलं ध्माता गिरेर्धातवो । निस्तीर्णः सरितां पतिर्नृपतयो यत्नेन सन्तोषिताः । मन्त्राराधन-तत्-परेण मनसा नीताः श्मशाने निशाः । प्राप्तः काण-वराटकोऽपि न मया तृष्णे सकामा भव ॥
utkhātaṃ nidhi-śaṅkayā kṣiti-talaṃ dhmātā girerdhātavo | nistīrṇaḥ saritāṃ patirnṛpatayo yatnena santoṣitāḥ | mantrārādhana-tat-pareṇa manasā nītāḥ śmaśāne niśāḥ | prāptaḥ kāṇa-varāṭako'pi na mayā tṛṣṇe sakāmā bhava ||
I dug up the ground hoping for treasure; I smelted the ores of mountains; I crossed the ocean, lord of rivers; I pleased kings with great effort; I spent nights in cremation grounds, my mind fixed on rites of mantras. Not even a cracked cowrie did I gain. O Craving, have your fill now and let me be.
