prayatnaśaithilyānantasamāpattibhyām ||

[It is perfected] through relaxation of effort and absorption in the endless.

Practise postures with a qualified teacher and never through pain. Stop if you feel pain, dizziness or breathlessness, and consult a doctor first if you have a heart, blood-pressure or respiratory condition, an injury, or are pregnant. Yoga is not a substitute for medical treatment.

Meaning today and context

A posture settles not by forcing harder but by letting go of strain, and by resting the attention in something vast and open. Ease, not effort, is the sign of progress.

How posture is perfected: by relaxing effort and by letting the mind merge with the boundless. The second phrase is read in more than one way, as absorption in the infinite or in the endless serpent (Ananta) that holds the earth.
