sattvapuruṣayoratyantāsaṃkīrṇayoḥ pratyayāviśeṣo bhogaḥ parārthātsvārthasaṃyamātpuruṣajñānam ||
Experience is the failure to distinguish the awareness of sattva [the mind] and puruṣa [the seer], which are utterly distinct; since [the mind] exists for another, by saṃyama on what exists for itself, knowledge of puruṣa.
Meaning today and context
We take the mind's moods and thoughts to be ourselves. Seeing that thoughts and feelings are observed, and that you are the one who observes them, loosens their grip.
A central philosophical statement inside the list: ordinary experience rests on confusing the mind (sattva) with the seer (puruṣa).
