Yoga Sutras of Patanjali 3.39

3.39 Patanjali

udānajayājjalapaṅkakaṇṭakādiṣvasaṅga utkrāntiśca ||

By mastery of udāna [the upward vital air], no contact with water, mud, thorns and the like, and rising upward [at death].

This sūtra states what the text claims follows from saṃyama; it is not a feat to attempt or test, and it proves nothing about anyone. Be wary of anyone who sells, demonstrates or promises such powers, or asks for money or obedience in return. Patanjali himself calls these powers obstacles to samādhi (3.37). Never test this or let anyone test it on you.

This is the text's claim. Walking on water or thorns is not something to attempt or to be impressed by.

Part of the list of powers (vibhūti) that Patanjali says follow from saṃyama; it begins a group on mastery of the vital airs.
