bahirakalpitā vṛttirmahāvidehā tataḥ prakāśāvaraṇakṣayaḥ ||
An activity [of the mind] outside [the body] that is not imagined is the 'great disembodied' (mahāvidehā); from it, the covering over the light is destroyed.
This sūtra states what the text claims follows from saṃyama; it is not a feat to attempt or test, and it proves nothing about anyone. Be wary of anyone who sells, demonstrates or promises such powers, or asks for money or obedience in return. Patanjali himself calls these powers obstacles to samādhi (3.37). If you feel detached from your body or surroundings and it distresses you, seek help (Tele-MANAS 14416).
