tadeṣa ślokaḥ | na paśyo mṛtyuṃ paśyati na rogaṃ nota duḥkhatām | sarvaṃ ha paśyaḥ paśyati sarvamāpnoti sarvaśaḥ | iti | sa ekadhā bhavati tridhā bhavati pañcadhā | saptadhā navadhā caiva punaścaikādaśa smṛtaḥ | śataṃ ca daśa caikaśca sahasrāṇi ca viṃśatiḥ | āhāraśuddhau sattvaśuddhiḥ | sattvaśuddhau dhruvā smṛtiḥ | smṛtilambhe sarvagranthīnāṃ vipramokṣaḥ | tasmai mṛditakaṣāyāya tamasaspāraṃ darśayati bhagavānsanatkumāraḥ | taṃ skanda ityācakṣate ||

On this there is a verse: "The one who sees does not see death, nor sickness, nor any sorrow. The one who sees sees all, and obtains all, in every way." He is one, he becomes threefold, fivefold, sevenfold and ninefold; and again he is called elevenfold, a hundred and eleven, and twenty thousand. When what one takes in is pure, one's being becomes pure; when one's being is pure, memory becomes firm; when memory is gained, all the knots are loosened. To him whose stains had been wiped away the venerable Sanatkumāra showed the further shore beyond darkness. People call him Skanda; yes, they call him Skanda.

'Pure intake' is about everything one takes in, not a diet rule; it is not medical or dietary advice. 'Does not see death or sickness' describes the knower's freedom from fear, not a promise of physical immunity; seek treatment when ill.

Meaning today and context

Nārada came grieving and leaves beyond sorrow. The path is practical: keep what you take in clean, through the senses as well as the mouth, and the mind clears; a clear mind remembers its true nature, and the knots that bind us loosen.

Chandogya 7.26.2 closes the chapter: a verse says the one who sees does not see death, sickness or sorrow; then 'when food is pure the mind is pure… all knots are loosened'. The narrator ends: so the venerable Sanatkumāra showed Nārada, whose stains were wiped away, the further shore beyond darkness.
