atha yadyajña ityācakṣate brahmacaryameva tat | brahmacaryeṇa hyeva yo jñātā taṃ vindate | atha yadiṣṭamityācakṣate brahmacaryameva tat | brahmacaryeṇa hyeveṣṭvātmānamanuvindate ||
Now, what people call sacrifice (yajña) is really brahmacarya, for it is only through brahmacarya that one who knows (yo jñātā) finds that world. And what people call worship (iṣṭa) is really brahmacarya, for it is only by seeking (iṣṭvā) through brahmacarya that one finds the Self.
Brahmacarya here is the disciplined life of a student devoted to learning; it is not a demand for celibacy or self-denial for householders.
