Chandogya Upanishad 6.7.1

6.7.1 Uddalaka Aruni to Shvetaketu

ṣoḍaśakalaḥ somya puruṣaḥ | pañcadaśāhāni māśīḥ | kāmamapaḥ piba | āpomayaḥ prāṇo na pibato vicchetsyata iti ||

"A person, my dear, has sixteen parts. Do not eat for fifteen days; drink water as you like. Breath is made of water; it will not be cut off in one who drinks."

This is a teaching demonstration about food and the mind, not dietary or fasting advice. Do not fast for long periods; going without food harms the body and mind. Consult a doctor before any fast.
