ko vīrasya manasvinaḥ sva-viṣayaḥ ko vā videśaḥ smṛtaḥ | yaṃ deśaṃ śrayate tameva kurute bāhu-pratāpārjitam | yaddaṃṣṭrānakha-lāṅgula-praharaṇaḥ siṃho vanaṃ gāhate | tasminneva hata-dvipendra-rudhiraistṛṣṇāṃ chinattyātmanaḥ ||

For a brave, high-spirited person, what is his own land and what is foreign? Whatever land he takes to, he makes his own, won by the strength of his arms. The lion, armed with fangs, claws and tail, enters a forest and there itself quenches his thirst with the blood of great elephants he has slain.

Meaning today and context

Skill and effort travel with you. People who move for work or study often find that their abilities, not their birthplace, decide how they fare.

The crow continues his argument for moving: a capable person makes any land his own.
