Through greed the mind wavers; greed gives rise to craving; one tormented by craving finds sorrow, here and hereafter.

Meaning today and context

Greed makes us act against our own better judgment, as the mouse does right after deciding to leave. Wanting more breeds more wanting, and the restlessness itself is the suffering.

Despite all his reflections, Hiraṇyaka out of greed decides to try once more to steal the monk's food.
