arthāḥ pāda-rajopamā giri-nadī-vegopamaṃ yauvanam | āyuṣyaṃ jala-bindu-lola-capalaṃ phenopamaṃ jīvanam | dharmaṃ yo na karoti niścala-matiḥ svargārgalodghāṭanaṃ | paścāt-tāpa-hato jarā-pariṇataḥ śokāgninā dahyate ||

Riches are like dust on the feet, youth like the rush of a mountain stream, the span of life trembling like a drop of water, life itself like foam. Whoever, with a steady mind, does not practise dharma, which unbolts the door of heaven, later grows old, struck by remorse, and burns in the fire of grief.
