असम्भोगेन सामान्यं कृपणस्य धनं परैः । अस्येदमिति सम्बन्धो हानौ दुःखेन गम्यते ॥
asambhogena sāmānyaṃ kṛpaṇasya dhanaṃ paraiḥ | asyedamiti sambandho hānau duḥkhena gamyate ||
Because he never enjoys it, the miser's money is no more his than anyone else's. That it is 'his' is known only by the pain he feels when it is lost.
