avaśendriya-cittānāṃ hasti-snānamiva kriyā | durbhagābharaṇa-prāyo jñānaṃ bhāraḥ kriyāṃ vinā ||
For those whose senses and mind are not under control, every rite is like an elephant's bath; knowledge without action is a burden, like ornaments on an unlucky woman.
The image of the 'unlucky woman' reflects the attitudes of its time (often a widow, who was barred from ornaments); it is not a judgement on any woman.
