औरसं कृत-सम्बन्धं तथा वंश-क्रमागतम् । रक्षकं व्यसनेभ्यश्च मित्रं ज्ञेयं चतुर्-विधम् ॥
aurasaṃ kṛta-sambandhaṃ tathā vaṃśa-kramāgatam | rakṣakaṃ vyasanebhyaśca mitraṃ jñeyaṃ catur-vidham ||
Friends should be known to be of four kinds: one's own blood, one related by marriage or bond, one whose friendship comes down through the family, and one who protects you from calamities.
