Not a bath in cool water for one worn out by heat, not a string of pearls, not sandal paste smeared over every limb gives such delight as the words of good people usually give the heart: well reasoned and polished, they are like a spell that draws in the virtuous.

Meaning today and context

Kind, sensible words from a good person can comfort more than any luxury. It is worth both seeking such company and learning to speak that way ourselves.

The mouse Hiraṇyaka, moved by the crow's words, comes out of his hole and says he is refreshed by them.
