Hitopadesha 2.165

2.165 Narayana

poto dustara-vāri-rāśitaraṇe dīpo'ndhakārāgame | nirvāte vyajanaṃ madāndha-kariṇāṃ darpopaśāntyai sṛṇiḥ | itthaṃ tadbhuvi nāsti yasya vidhinā nopāya-cintā kṛtā | manye durjana-citta-vṛtti-haraṇe dhātāpi bhagnodyamaḥ ||

A boat to cross the impassable ocean, a lamp when darkness falls, a fan when there is no breeze, a goad to calm the pride of elephants blind with rut: there is nothing on earth for which the Creator has not devised a remedy. But in removing the ways of a wicked mind, I think, even the Creator gave up the attempt.

You can solve many problems, but you cannot fix a person who is set on harm. Rather than trying to change them, protect yourself and keep your distance.
