Hitopadesha 2.79

2.79 Narayana

bālādapi gṛhītavyaṃ yuktamuktaṃ manīṣibhiḥ | raveraviṣaye kiṃ na pradīpasya prakāśanam ||

What is fitting, when said by thoughtful people, should be accepted even from a child. Where the sun cannot reach, does a lamp not give light?

Meaning today and context

Good sense is good sense whoever says it: a junior colleague, a student, your own child. A small lamp lights a corner the sun cannot reach; do not dismiss an idea because of who offers it.
