Hitopadesha 3.103

3.103 Narayana

jāyante ca mriyante ca mad-vidhāḥ kṣudra-jantavaḥ | anena sadṛśo loke na bhūto na bhaviṣyati ||

Small creatures like me are born and die; but one like this man has never been in the world and never will be.

This is a legend about loyalty, not a model to follow: no duty to an employer, leader or cause ever justifies harming a child, anyone else, or oneself. If you are thinking of ending your life, call Tele-MANAS 14416 now; in danger, call 112.
