priyaṃ brūyādakṛpaṇaḥ śūraḥ syādavikatthanaḥ | dātā nāpātra-varṣī ca pragalbhaḥ syādaniṣṭhuraḥ ||
One should speak kindly and not be mean; be brave but not boastful; be generous but not pour gifts on the unworthy; be bold but not harsh.
मधुर बोले पर दीन न हो; शूरवीर हो पर डींग न मारे; दानी हो पर अपात्र पर न बरसाए; साहसी हो पर कठोर न हो।
