Hitopadesha 3.133

3.133 Narayana

dhūrtaḥ strī vā śiśuryasya mantriṇaḥ syurmahīpateḥ | anīti-pavana-kṣipto'kāryābdhau sa nimajjati ||

The king whose counsellors are a rogue, a woman or a child is tossed by the wind of bad policy and sinks in the ocean of wrongdoing.

This reflects the prejudices of its time; it is not the app's view and must never be used to demean, distrust or exclude women from counsel or leadership.

Meaning today and context

The sound core is that a leader with dishonest or inexperienced advisers goes astray; the line about women reflects its age, not the truth.

In Book 3 (Vigraha), the cakravāka minister continues: a king must choose his counsellors well.
