Desire, anger and greed, elation, pride and arrogance: let a king give up this group of six; when it is given up, the king is happy.

Meaning today and context

The six inner enemies, lust, anger, greed, giddy excitement, ego and arrogance, cloud the judgment of anyone in charge. A leader who masters them makes better decisions and lives more at peace.

After the story of the mongoose, Dūradarśin adds a maxim for the king Citravarṇa.
