Mundaka Upanishad 1.1.9

1.1.9 Angiras to Shaunaka

yaḥ sarvajñaḥ sarvavidyasya jñānamayaṃ tapaḥ | tasmādetadbrahma nāma rūpamannaṃ ca jāyate ||

He who knows all, who understands all, whose tapas consists of knowledge: from him are born this Brahmā, name and form, and food.

Meaning today and context

Here the highest effort is not straining but knowing. The source of the world is pure awareness, and its 'tapas' is that awareness itself; real discipline, too, ripens into clear understanding.

Aṅgiras closes the first section (Mundaka 1.1.9): the source of creation is all-knowing, and its tapas is nothing but knowledge.
