puruṣa evedaṃ viśvaṃ karma tapo brahma parāmṛtam | etadyo veda nihitaṃ guhāyāṃ so'vidyāgranthiṃ vikiratīha somya ||
The Person alone is all this: action, austerity, Brahman, the supreme immortal. One who knows this, hidden in the cave of the heart, cuts apart the knot of ignorance here and now, my dear.
Meaning today and context
The knot that binds us is not outside; it is a misunderstanding about who we are. When we know the reality hidden in our own heart, that knot loosens, in this life, not in some distant one.
Aṅgiras sums up the first section of the second Mundaka (Mundaka 2.1.10): the Person is all this, and whoever knows him hidden in the heart unties the knot of ignorance in this very life.
