2.1.2 Angiras to Shaunaka

divyo hyamūrtaḥ puruṣaḥ sa bāhyābhyantaro hyajaḥ | aprāṇo hyamanāḥ śubhro hyakṣarātparataḥ paraḥ ||

Divine and formless is that Person, outside and within, unborn, without breath, without mind, pure, higher than the high imperishable.

Meaning today and context

What we most truly are is not our breath, not our mind and its moods, and has no shape to be judged. It is both within us and beyond us, and nothing that happens to us stains it.

Aṅgiras describes the Person (puruṣa) beyond even the imperishable source (Mundaka 2.1.2).
